Atlas — Privacy
Atlas is an offline map with turn-by-turn directions for Garmin Venu watches, with a phone app to pick destinations. There is no account, no advertising, and no data is sold or shared.
What leaves the device
- Start and destination coordinates go to the routing engine (OSRM at routing.openstreetmap.de, through Atlas's own relay) only when you ask for a route. The relay does not store them.
- Search text and the coordinates of a tapped point go to the Photon geocoder (komoot) to get a name back. Not stored.
- When pairing watch and phone, the watch sends its model, firmware and Atlas version so the phone can show what it is paired with. The destination and up to 20 saved places sit in the pairing channel's mailbox (Cloudflare KV) for the watch to read; the channel expires after 90 days unused, and Unlink in the app deletes it at once.
- Map downloads are static files; the server sees the phone's network address, as any web download does.
What stays on the device
GPS position, the current route, downloaded maps and settings live in the app's storage on the watch and are gone when the app is removed. Position is never uploaded except as the start point of a route request or a reverse-geocoding lookup described above.
